Biography
Seema Rao, MD, CMD, is a board-certified geriatrician, with many years of experience as an attending geriatrician and skilled nursing facility (SNF) physician. She joined Northern California Medical Associates in December 2019. Dr. Rao provides medical care to patients in skilled nursing, assisted living and memory care facilities. She has worked as attending Geriatrician at Scripps Health in San Diego. Before that she ran her own practice in New Jersey and was an attending at a major teaching hospital and several nursing homes.
Dr. Rao holds four board certifications, including: Geriatrics, Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, Internal Medicine and Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Rao is very passionate about elder care and providing support to the aging population. Her research interests include integrative medicine approaches to common geriatric syndromes. Among her publishing credentials, she wrote a chapter in Integrative Geriatric Medicine (ISBN-13: 978-0190466268), a part of the Weil Integrative Medicine Library. Find her work in Chapter 18: “Integrative Approaches to Treating Lung Diseases in the Geriatric Population.”
Dr. Rao completed a fellowship in Geriatric and Integrative Medicine at George Washington University and VA Hospital in Washington, DC, and a residency in internal medicine at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She earned her medical degree, and residency in medicine and clinical pharmacology from the University of Bombay in Bombay, India. Dr. Rao has undergone extensive training in integrative medicine that includes acupuncture from Harvard Medical School, five-element acupuncture, classical homeopathy (a three-year degree course, American School of homeopathy, Arizona), osteopathic manipulations from University of New England and functional medicine.
Dr. Rao is an active member of American Medical Directors Association (AMDA), The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine) and the California Association of Long Term Care Medicine (CALCTM).
