Provides diagnostic vascular imaging tests for patients, primarily venous insufficiency exams.
Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to the following):
• Primarily scanning venous insufficiency studies for busy vein lab. Other vascular studies performed would include extracranial cerebrovascular, upper and lower peripheral arterial duplex, upper and lower extremity venous duplex ultrasound and some visceral vascular duplex.
• Explains procedures to patients to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
• Obtains digital images as per the lab’s protocol and prepares a preliminary report (Synapse/Prosolv software) for cardiologists.
• Maintains equipment. Orders and stocks supplies.
• Familiar with electronic medical records systems, CPT and ICD codes. Maintains department records, reports and files.
• This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Education, Licensure and/or Certifications
• Credential in vascular technology from the ARDMS (Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT); Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS); Registered Technologist Vascular Sonography [RT(VS)], completion of specialized formal program in vascular technology or on-the-job training as Vein Imaging specialist. Must complete appropriate credentials from ARDMS within first 2 years of employment.
• Experience performing arterial and venous upper and lower extremity duplex, aorta duplex, renal duplex, and carotids.
• Experience working independently.
Equipment used is iU22, iE33, sonobeds, Hag chairs, Parks CW and Synapse software reporting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
• Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to pinpoint area of imaging.
• Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
• Skill in operating ultrasound equipment and software reporting systems.
• Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

• Scanning up to 4-7 patients per day, 1 to 2 hours per patient.
• All scanning equipment (Philips iE33 and iU22) is adjustable and ergonomically designed.
• No portable work.
