Position Title: Nuclear Technician
Clinic: Fountaingrove Cardiology
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Schedule: Per Diem

Summary: Provide specialized diagnostic tests for patients, and manage all radioactive materials in compliance with state license.

Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to the following):

Under direction of physicians:
• Perform nuclear cardiology procedures.
• Supervises nuclear stress tests done by the CV Tech.
• Inject all radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals used during testing.
• Recognize and report cardiac arrhythmias.

Under direction of RSO:
• Document and process all studies, and store data.
• Work with physics support staff during on-site inspections.
• Maintain lab protocols according to I.C.A.N.L. and state standards.
• Manage disposal of bio hazardous and radioactive waste.

Patient Care:
• Make appointment reminder calls 48 hours before patient procedure
• Explain procedure to patients, obtain informed consent.
• Establish intravenous access prior to injection of isotope.
• Interview patient regarding current pulmonary disease or diabetes.
• Observe patient throughout entire exam.
• Assist CV tech as needed during stress portion of nuclear study.
• Respond to patient emergencies appropriately in a timely manner.

• This position exercises supervision over an assigned Cardiovascular Technician.

Education, Licensure and/or Certifications
• High school diploma.
• Completion of specialized course in nuclear imaging technology
• CPR certification
• Basic Arrhythmia and ACLS classes preferred.
• Certification in diagnostic nuclear imaging (state and national).

• One-year experience as a technician, preferable in nuclear cardiology.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

a. Cross-sectional anatomy and physiology of the heart.
b. Safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
c. Quality control of the lab.

a. Operate nuclear medicine camera.
b. Knowledge of various computer programs.
c. Ability to assess patient vital signs (BP, HR, Cardiac Rhythm).
