Santa Rosa, CA, – On April 20, 2011, a special award was presented to Northern California Medical Associates (NCMA) CEO, Ruth Skidmore, from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The award, called “Patriot Award,” is designed to recognize employers who support a strong National Guard and Reserve force. Employers qualify for recognition when they practice leadership and personnel policies that support employee participation in the Guard and Reserve.
Northern California Medical Associates, Inc., is one of Northern California’s premier providers of medical and surgical care since 1975. Under the supervision and guidance of Ruth Skidmore, CEO, and their dedicated physicians, nurse practitioners and staff, NCMA has successfully created a comprehensive medical model featuring an independent, primary care and multi-specialty group practice. This innovative approach to healthcare allows patients access to an extensive range of medical and surgical services, diagnostic testing and preventive programs.
Bradley T. Clair, M.D., F.A.C.C., a cardiologist with NCMA and a U.S. Army National member, nominated NCMA CEO Ruth Skidmore to receive the award. As a battalion commander of the 4225th US Army Hospital, Dr. Clair has been deployed three times since joining the Army Reserve in April, 2001- twice to Landstuhl, Germany, where he worked as both a cardiologist and as an internist, and once to Iraq, where he was an intensivist and internist.
Dr. Clair’s commitment and demanding schedule as an Army Reservist and NCMA cardiologist does not end there. As a Colonel, Dr. Clair is scheduled to take over as commander of the 6253rd US Army Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Clair credits Ruth Skidmore and the administration of NCMA as an indispensable support system for his local and international commitments. Dr. Clair states that:
“NCMA has been very supportive. From working my on-call responsibilities around my Army duties, to finding substitute doctors and partners to cover my practice when deployed, to continuing to pay my salary when I was deployed. NCMA and Ruth understand how important the Army is to me and have been very helpful to my military career. A soldier should be so lucky to work for a company who backs me as they do.”
“We are so fortunate to have Dr. Clair as a member of our medical group,” said Ruth Skidmore, “NCMA makes a priority of being a contributing member of the community through our local efforts across Sonoma County and beyond; we are proud to maintain that same spirit on an even greater scale with our support for Dr. Clair.”
Northern California Medical Associates is now eligible to be considered for the next level of recognition, the Above and Beyond Award, when the awards board convenes in October 2011. Awarded in limited numbers by state and territory ESGR Committees and presented at the ESGR’s annual employer recognition banquet, this award recognizes employers at the state and local level who have gone above the legal requirements for granting leave and providing support for military by their employees.
